Marijuana Terpenes - Key Features

Marijuana Terpenes - Key Features

Terpenes are naturally occurring compounds found in the trichomes of the female marijuana plant. Trichomes are sticky, translucent glands that cover the surface of buds and are much less numerous on leaves and stems. It is important to note that trichomes contain resin glands that produce terpenes.

Why does hemp need terpenes? They play an important role in the growth and survival of cannabis plants. In addition to creating distinctive aromas, these organic compounds also enrich the color and pigmentation of leaves, buds, and contribute to the aroma of cannabis. Simply put, terpenes help increase the plant's attractiveness to some creatures and repel others that might cause harm. Unflavoured cannabis varieties tend to have fewer trichomes.

The main features of terpene

One of the important compounds used in essential oils. They are most commonly found on plants, including teas, herbs, and, of course, cannabis. Terpenes are mainly found in egg yolk, fish scales and animal feathers.

Unique chemical compounds are valued for their therapeutic and healing purposes. They are also found in spices and essential oils that can be used every day.

Two of these spices are curcumin and thyme. Curcumin is a very favorite spice in Indian dishes. It boasts a wide range of healing properties, but is best known as an anti-inflammatory and pain reliever. Thyme is another spice commonly used in our cuisine. Therapeutically, it has both antibacterial and antifungal properties.

Marijuana also contains a large amount of terpenes. Cannabis terpenes are similar to better known compounds THC and CBD.

The most common cannabis terpenes

Cannabis strains contain both primary and secondary terpenes.

The main cannabis terpenes have a major influence on the appearance, taste and aroma of the plant.

Secondaries are the main substances that add depth and layering to all these plant characteristics.

Marijuana strains fall into two categories: indica and sativa. The two groups are based on the type of hybrid traits the plant has, including flavor and aroma, and the impact the strain has on the user. Typically, Indica strains give consumers total body relaxation. Sativa strains are known for their invigorating and creative effects. The taste, aroma, texture, and effect that this variety gives go well beyond the separation of indica and sativa. What variety of marijuana terpene is found in a particular strain and whether that terpene is primary or secondary is the real reason a strain is indica or sativa.

Terpenes are the properties that create your particular strain of marijuana. With so many to choose from, there is something for every hobbyist.

Primary

  • Pinen

This compound is usually obtained from resins. For medicinal purposes, it is used as an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and bronchodilator. Strains that contain this terpene: Haze Berry, OG Kush and Blue Dream;

  • Humulene

It has a wonderful woody scent. The two main medical uses for this compound are as an appetite suppressant and an anti-inflammatory agent. Humulene terpenes can be found in marijuana strains such as Gelato, Atlantis, and Sour Diesel;

  • Limonene

The incredibly bright citrus aroma of Limonene can instantly cheer you up. Its invigorating properties help reduce anxiety and depression. This compound is found in Wedding Cake, Quantum Kush and Berry White;

  • Myrcene

A fundamental property is the ability to increase absorption through the skin, as well as increase the amount of cannabinoid substances in the brain. A large amount of cannabinoids in the brain gives the user a feeling of euphoria. The smell is earthy, clove. Marijuana strains with this terpene include OG Kush, Girl Scout Cookies, and Grape Ape. Myrcene is also found in hops, the main component of beer.

Secondaries

  • Borneol

This compound has a minty aroma and taste with an unusual metallic tinge. Its medicinal properties include use as an anti-inflammatory and pain reliever. Can be found in varieties: K13-Haze, Golden Haze and Amnesia Haze;

  • Phytol

It has a characteristic shade of flora. This marijuana terpene gives the user a feeling of relaxation. It is often used for its sedative and calming properties. Another of its medicinal properties is anti-inflammatory. Can be found in Sour Diesel, Blue Dream, and Cheese marijuana strains.

  • Eucalyptol

Scent is go terpene - cooling menthol, mint smell. It has both antibacterial and antifungal properties. It is a secondary component of marijuana strains found in Girl Scout Cookies, AC/DC, and Headband;

  • Sabinene

The variety has a unique spicy smell. Rumor has it that it smells like pumpkin pie. While this terpene should be used in small amounts, its medicinal properties include antibacterial and antioxidant properties. One of the main strains it is found in is Super Silver Haze.
