Hemp root and its beneficial properties

Hemp root and its beneficial properties

It's no longer a secret that cannabis has many uses. Thanks to the endocannabinoid system that exists in the bodies of all living beings (except insects), the compounds in the cannabis plant interact with receptors in the human body, producing all the effects for which this plant is famous.

Most of the time when people talk about using cannabis, they mean cannabis seeds or using oils extracted from the plant. One part of the anatomy that can seem rather forgotten because most of the time they are out of sight is the roots.

However, the benefits of cannabis roots should not be overlooked as they perform incredibly important functions, from industrial to holistic.

Historical Medical Uses of Marijuana Roots

Today, most gardeners dispose of cannabis roots immediately after harvest. However, this miracle remedy has been used for therapeutic purposes for thousands of years. Chinese texts dating back to 2700 BC describe the use of cannabis root as a remedy for the discomfort of surgeries and fractures.

They were very easy to prepare. The roots were first dried and then ground into a thick paste. External application helped to heal the wound faster, and internally relieve pain.

But the Chinese are not the only people who have used marijuana roots as medicine. The Roman historian Pliny the Elder wrote detailed accounts of the holistic use of cannabis sometime around 79 BC, detailing how it could be used to relieve burns, care for joints, and relieve gout.

Modern use of cannabis root

Cannabis roots are less popular than inflorescences. Despite this, they have taken their place in the market. In countries that successfully practice traditional medicine, roots are an indispensable attribute in the prevention and treatment of arthritis, arthrosis, burns and much more.

Cannabis root extract is currently an ingredient in many topical products such as balms, lotions, gels, massage oils.

It is not often used in foods, but it can be brewed as a tea, boiled slowly, then dried and ground into a powder. You can add cinnamon, anise, or other aromatics for flavor.

Do hemp roots contain CBD and THC?

There is evidence that marijuana root does contain small amounts of CBD. The percentage of cannabinol is so small that it is not enough for a clear effect. However, the concentration of cannabinoids in the roots depends on many factors, such as the strain, as well as where and how it is cultivated.

Studies on high THC strains are yet to be done, but given the evidence we have, it's safe to assume that roots will have a much lower concentration of THC/CBD than flowers and leaves.

Like cannabinoids, terpenes are essential for the health benefits of the cannabis plant. Interestingly, a couple of terpenes have been found in cannabis roots that are not found in appreciable concentrations elsewhere in the plant.

Back in 1971, researchers discovered that cannabis root contains both fridelin and epifridelanol, two triterpenoids used to protect against plant predators that may be beneficial to human health and wellness.

How adherents of traditional medicine use cannabis roots

  • Dried, powdered and mixed with juice to form a paste;
  • Crushed and mixed with high-grade alcohol;
  • Raw;
  • Baking at low temperatures;
  • Making a decoction, which is an oil extraction process.

The Coffeeshop® online store does not encourage self-medication and marijuana cultivation in the territories of those countries where it is prohibited (including in Ukraine). The material is for informational purposes only. Exercise, eat right and be healthy!
