What is 420 or marijuana day

What is 420 or marijuana day

The number 420 is a designation that has been widespread throughout the world for a long time. Mention of “four twenty” can be found in cinema, musical compositions, and so on. In addition, people who have nothing to do with hemp culture have heard at least once in their lives that there is a hemp day. The date 4/20 and the time 4:20 are truly significant parts of the history of the development of marijuana in the world. But where exactly did this number come from and what does it mean, we will look in more detail in our article.

Common theories about where marijuana day came from

In fact, the culture of marijuana use interprets the presented number in different ways. Some believe that 420 is the number of active components in cannabis. There is also an opinion that 420 is a section of the California Criminal Code about the use of marijuana, or a special code for patrol officers, which they use to designate a call regarding the fact that illegal cultivation of hemp or smoking is taking place somewhere. There are really a lot of versions and they are all different.

True version about marijuana birthday

In reality, everything is somewhat more prosaic - it happened on April 20 in the distant 1970s. At the time, several teenagers who had a habit of smoking joints after school came up with the idea of "four-twenty" to describe their search for an abandoned cannabis plantation.

The cipher itself appeared for the reason that schoolchildren most often went on searches at 4:20 in the afternoon. When school ended, they went to their designated place - to the statue, which was located on the school grounds, before smoking, and went into the Point Reyes forest to find that very mystical herb.

As a result, the plantation was never found, but the tradition of gathering in a designated place remained. Quite quickly, the phrase "four-twenty" quickly became known throughout the city. This designation was used to encrypt a call to smoke weed together. This way, they could calmly talk about cannabis without worrying that teachers or parents would hear them.

When did they start celebrating World Hemp Day

At one point, with the help of their relatives who work with musicians, the same teenagers were able to attend a concert of the Grateful Dead, who are known for their addiction to smoking cannabis. But the whole thing was not limited to just watching the performance. Also, after the concert, the teenagers were able to meet the musicians and even spend some time in their company. That's when they stopped being wary and secretive, starting to use their code word "4:20" and explaining to the musicians exactly what it meant.

Some time later, in the 90s, leaflets were noticed among fans in which the mention of that same code appeared for the first time. Deadheads – this is the name given to many of the band’s loyal fans who constantly come to their performances. It was they who contributed to the fact that the iconic canna phrase quickly spread throughout the country. It was in these leaflets, next to the proposal to meet at 4:20 on April 20 in Marin County in Bolinas Ridge to smoke a blunt together, that a short story was written about how exactly this holiday came about.

How I celebrate marijuana day nowadays

The first largest cannabis festival dedicated to cannabis occurred in the city of Vancouver in the mid-90s. At that time, this city was considered the local capital of Canna. At the moment, this holiday is celebrated in many countries. There are many places where crowds of people gather together on April 20 at a certain well-known time to smoke a blunt.

The scope of the festival depends on the legalization of hemp in a particular country. These can be quiet meetings with friends in nature, closed parties, huge festivals with a festive procession, etc.

The largest celebration of marijuana day is held in Colorado - a large-scale festival is held there. In 2013, a real record was broken - this event recorded the number of visitors of more than 50,000 people. The presented gatherings were somewhat reminiscent of hippie parties from the 1970s, but only in a more modern interpretation and with famous performers.
