The principle of proper watering cannabis

The principle of proper watering cannabis

Like all plants, cannabis requires water to perform its basic functions. Water helps plants absorb nutrients from the soil and then moves up the plant and into the leaves. But giving your marijuana plant the right amount of water can be trickier than you think.

There is no exact science of watering cannabis. In most cases, you cannot watch the roots to see if they need water. Also, the plant is constantly growing and the climate it is in will change, so the amount of water it needs is constantly changing.

In this article, you'll find some proven tips to help keep your crop healthy and properly hydrated.

Proper watering schedule for marijuana

How to water marijuana

Marijuana should only be watered with filtered water. It does not contain harmful trace elements, bacteria and single-celled viruses that can harm the plant and provoke diseases. Filtered water is more easily absorbed by the root system, and the output product is much better and cleaner.

Water stress in cannabis causes excessive watering when the grower gives the plant more water than it needs. If there is too much water in the substrate, the root system will begin to rot and decompose. Useful substances will not reach the stems and leaves, and growth will stop.

What is the best way to water hemp? It is definitely necessary to water marijuana once a week with filtered water with top dressing. And at each stage of the life of cannabis, it is necessary to fertilize in different ways.

For example, in the initial period, after the first germination of hemp seeds, peat fertilizers are required in order to form the correct development and immunity. And during the growing season, the grower will need nitrogen macronutrients to provoke cell division and ensure full growth of the bush. The ideal option for feeding during the growing season will be nitroammophos. For hemp to bloom, you will need phosphorus and potash top dressing. They are needed in order to properly form the fruits and make the bush more resilient to weather conditions.

Experts recommend the use of water-soluble fertilizers for feeding hemp. They are better absorbed by the plant and easier to use.

Which substrate to choose for hemp

It's no secret that the ideal substrate for hemp is soil (80%) and coconut fiber (20%). Watering in coconut (coconut fiber) allows you to not retain moisture and does not allow bacteria to multiply. Often growers use drainage to ensure good air circulation.

How often do I need to water cannabis? This is a question that worries all beginner growers. And to check for sure whether the plant needs watering, you need to carry out the following manipulations:

Dip your finger into the soil 1-2 cm - if it is wet, wait; if it's dry, it's time to water.

How to determine the lack of water in the soil by appearance

A marijuana plant that is under-watered looks drooping and weak, with yellow or brown leaves, no vigor in them, looks lifeless, and the lower foliage tends to turn yellow first. The growth and development of fruits stops;

The leaves of a waterlogged plant look a bit similar in that they droop, except that the leaves will be dark green and the leaf tips curled.
